Understanding Adair County Released Inmates
A release is the end of one custodian's control, not always the end of all custody. Adair County Regional Jail may release a person to the community on bond, after time served, or under a court order. It may instead transfer that person to Kentucky DOC, another jail, a medical setting, or an agency acting on a detainer. Each event can remove a name from the jail's current-inmate page, but only some are community releases.
The best record answers four questions: who left, which custodian gave up control, when that happened, and what authority or receiving agency caused the move. The jail record is usually the strongest source for the local timestamp. A District or Circuit Court order can explain the legal basis. Kentucky VINE may report a release date, while KOOL and DOC Daily Releases apply when the person is in the state corrections system.
Release ends a particular custody event. Discharge usually marks the end of a sentence or supervision. Parole is conditional release before sentence expiration. Probation is court-ordered community supervision. A transfer changes custodians and is not freedom.
How Adair County Custody Ends
The release label determines which follow-up source makes sense. A bond decision leaves the criminal case open. Time served concerns the sentence calculation. Never translate “not on the roster” into a release type. Ask for the code or authority recorded for the particular booking and check for other active cases or holds.
Fields in an Adair County Release Record
Adair County has not published a field guide for its release record. Request existing fields rather than assuming the jail uses a particular menu. Linking the booking and release portions matters because common names, repeat bookings, and several cases can otherwise create a false match.

A court docket can add the charge, disposition, judgment, sentence, bond order, dismissal, probation order, or revocation history. It does not replace the jail's exact exit time. Likewise, a release record does not prove that every criminal case ended.

- Gather the full name, likely date of birth, booking date range, and booking number if known.
- Ask for an electronic copy of the booking sheet and release record for that custody episode.
- Name the desired fields: booking and release times, release reason, authority, and receiving agency.
- Request segregable nonexempt portions and the legal basis for any withheld part.
- State Kentucky residency or the qualifying basis if the custodian asks, and request notice of copying charges first.
Kentucky's Open Records Act permits inspection under KRS 61.872. The general response procedure is in KRS 61.880. Research found no verified Adair fee schedule or public retention statement for former roster entries, so do not quote a fee or promise a turnaround beyond what the custodian confirms.
Online display and retention are different. Removal from the current list does not mean the underlying record was destroyed. Sealing, expungement, juvenile confidentiality, an exemption, or lawful retention disposal can still limit access. Adair Jail Site and Two Buildings
Local history traces county confinement on the present site to the nineteenth century. An 1894 jail was demolished in May 1985 for a modern multi-county regional jail. Current county material describes a main building and a restricted-custody building used for the work program. This history helps explain why local references to “the jail” may point to more than one physical unit.
The restricted building is part of the same jail operation, not a separately verified records agency. When a person moved between those units, ask Adair County Regional Jail which unit or central file contains the booking and release record. An internal move is not a community release.
Verify Adair Jail Fees at Release
The fiscal-year-2023 Adair audit found control weaknesses involving commissary and inmate accounts and noted that the reviewed process lacked an approved jail fee schedule. Four transactions totaling $30,690 lacked invoices. Those findings do not prove that any particular released person owes a booking fee, housing charge, or other amount.
Ask the jail or fiscal court for the currently approved fee schedule and an itemized account tied to the individual. Keep payment records and distinguish a documented balance from a number repeated by an unofficial source. The audit supports verification, not a universal claim about charges.
Search for a Released Adair County Inmate
Begin with the custodian, not the broadest name-search site. The official Adair list is labeled “current inmates,” and no official county 24-hour, 72-hour, or archived release feed was located as of July 19, 2026. Absence therefore starts an inquiry rather than ending one.
- Check the official jail list only to see whether the person is currently displayed. Record the access date and time.
- If absent, call the jail and ask whether that booking ended in community release or transfer, then request the date, time, reason, and receiving agency.

A person who drops off Adair's current roster may have been released, transferred, moved for court or medical care, or taken by another agency.

KOOL says updates are made daily and data newer than 120 days may not be finalized. The DOC Daily Releases series is a stronger event source. Its March 24, 2026 file lists a mandatory-reentry release from Adair County Jail and shows DOC number, name, type of release, released-from facility, and highest felony class. Probation comes from a court sentence. Use the federal court docket, the physical facility, and the U.S. Marshals district for those cases. ICE's locator has limited recent-release scope; a blank result does not prove release.

Match the source to the government and the event. A live roster answers a present-display question. A release record answers when and why a particular custodian ended control. Status tools add context but do not all cover the same population.

When sources conflict, compare their update time and purpose. An actual dated release event should not be overridden by a future projected date, but a transfer or detainer can still mean the person remains in custody elsewhere.
