Regional Jail Release Destinations
Adair County Regional Jail serves local agencies and also houses county and state prisoners. A county-only defendant may leave on bond, recognizance, time served, dismissal, or a court-directed release. What Adair Release Records Prove
Different documents prove different points. A booking record connects a person to a particular jail admission. A release timestamp shows when that custody episode ended. A release code may identify bond, sentence completion, dismissal, transfer, or another legal basis. Read case entries in date order. A later warrant, revocation, detainer, or corrected order can change the meaning of an earlier release. “Disposed” may mean conviction, dismissal, plea, acquittal, or another end to the court phase. It does not by itself prove completion of every custody obligation.
Adair Jail Populations Differ
A dated Kentucky DOC weekly jail report illustrates the mixed role of the Regional Jail. On December 24, 2025, it reported 51 beds and 80 occupants, including six Class D inmates, sixteen controlled-intake inmates, and two parole violators. It reported no federal inmates that day. Those figures are a one-day operational snapshot, not a present capacity statement or a count of releases.
The legal population controls the search route. A local pretrial defendant may never appear in KOOL. A state prisoner housed locally may have both a jail record and a DOC record. Controlled intake means DOC is processing placement, not that the person has been released. A parole violator may face a new custody decision through DOC and the Parole Board.
Adair Jail and VINE
The county service page says VINE polls jail booking computers every ten minutes. That documented local cadence makes VINE useful for notice, but it does not turn an alert into a certified release record. Kentucky's official explanation says an out-of-custody result gives the release date, while an in-custody result gives the jail or institution address and telephone.
Search both name and identifier when possible. State inmates housed at a county jail can have a local record and a DOC record, so inspect the facility attached to each result. A status change can also reflect transfer. For phone notices, the four-digit PIN acknowledges receipt and stops repeat calls. Confirm a release alert with the jail or court before relying on the event.

Regional Jail Site History
County confinement has occupied this part of Columbia since the nineteenth century. A local history account says an 1857 jail was replaced in 1894. The older building was demolished in May 1985 to make way for a modern multi-county regional jail. Present county material now describes both the main jail and a restricted-custody building used for a work program.
That history explains why local references to “the jail” can point to more than one building while records remain part of the same operation. A requester should state the likely building, dates, and booking number, then let the custodian determine where the record is maintained.
Departure Details Need a Call
No official source identified a fixed release time, public exit door, family waiting area, weekend rule, or property-return schedule. Do not assume that a court order sets the exact pickup time. Before traveling, call the jail and ask when and where the person is expected to exit, whether another hold remains, and how personal property is returned.
Transportation listings may show providers that serve Adair County, but no reviewed source guaranteed pickup at the jail or after-hours service. Release plans should be confirmed directly with the facility and any provider. A person transferred to DOC or another agency will not exit to the waiting party at all. Ask the narrow question first: was this a community release or a transfer?

The example is narrow. It does not turn the archive into a complete county jail-release list. People leaving on local bond, recognizance, dismissal, or a county-only sentence can be absent.
